I took this picture before I left for work yesterday. As I took it, I thought of the phrase, "Left with the sunrise in my side view mirror..."

This morning I built on that line and ended up writing Only My Breath In Front Of Me.

Left with the sunrise in

My side view mirror

Where I'm going

Is a fuzz

Where I'm leaving

So much clearer

 

That was this morning

 

Now sped it up on this open highway

Got no reason to not

Only my breath in front of me

And whatever a future I’ve got

 

Don’t know what’s to gain

But I’ve nothing left to lose

Already lost everything

Behind this open road I choose

 

Had it

Lost it

Caught it

Tossed it

What I had

I took for granted

What I’ve lost

I wish I’d planted

In my heart

 

Held it

Made the most of it

Caught up in it

Knew the cost of it

Or more

The cost of losing it

Unplanted

In my heart

 

Should have planted it

I may be moving forward

But am I running away

Or running towards

What is to be

So I've left with the sunrise in

My side view mirror

Where I'm going

And whatever future I’ve got

At least, that is, for you
