A shadow on the grave

 

A human silhouette

Of a man

Who stands between

The grave

And a winter sunset

 

A human silhouette

Of a man

Who stands in lean

Before the grave

Cane in snow

Firmly set

 

As seen in his silhouette

 

And though his silhouette can’t cry

No tears can form in shadow’s eye

But like the man

It cannot save

The loss entombed

In winter grave

So like the man

Now stands above

The one

The only

Man’s true love

 

Though only shadow

And shadow cane

It leans above now

Just the same

And if the shadow

A shadow’s eye

Then too

The shadow

It would cry

The loss of love

It could not save

The loss entombed

In winter grave

 

As only a shadow on the grave

The shadow reflects the man

But fear

Although it does what shadows can

The shadow cannot shed a tear

Tis but a shadow on the grave
