Seven Wonders
Seven Wonders

If you give him a chance
If you let him do his song and dance
He’ll try to convince you
Of how he brought light to the heavens
How he clipped the devil’s wings
Disregard what you’re told
His stories never get old
But none in reality
Near so grand
Nor so bold
He’s done neither of those things
And the accolades he’d won
When he formed the Grand Canyon
Using as an ingenious wand
A feather tied to the end of a bolt of lightning
Unwarranted again
The thought that anyone
Would give such power to a fool
Much less anyone
The prospects are frightening
But you may find the truths
Both believable and enlightening
He wired Café Heaven
How he “brought the lights”
He has a parakeet, Lucifer
Who’s actually one of eleven
Who all got their wings clipped
And the trench he dug as an irrigation drain
Not one of the Seven Wonders
But perhaps he is
At least I have seven wonders about him
I wonder if he believes what he says
I wonder if he believes we do
I wonder if he’s lost his marbles
I wonder if he ever had any
And to him
I wonder if every lightning bug’s a sun
Every flower is a planet
Every ten is a one
Every Susan, a Janet
I wonder if he has anyone
I wonder if he cares
Seven wonders
For the man who is not one
But perhaps where he has gone
Perhaps there he is one
And if you give him a chance
If you let him do his song and dance
It’s no wonder
He’ll try to convince you
He is one
