I’ll show you the gold
That left me hungry and cold
I got burned by the stars I’d reached for

Auntie Fay
What in the world are you burning
Auntie Fay
Your action’s beyond disconcerting
To start your fire
Said you had gotten free wood
Not the wood for free
As assumed understood
Not the wood for free
But in fact, it’s free wood
From the Liberty Tree
And you’re up to no good
Like telling the leaves
To hold on to Fall
To spare them from
The fire and rake
Why bother telling them at all
Compelled to take their leap of faith
Say no to fading fields of blue
Pay Attention
If you’re not paying attention,
Who’re you paying?
You’re always paying someone
In this game we’re playing
Called life
But no
It’s not by Milton Bradley
So don’t be such a game piece
Make your own moves
Roll your own dice
Don’t pay for life blindly
I’m just waiting
For the lightning to strike
Hear the clap of thunder
And I just might
Ride my horse into the rain
Like a banshee, scream
I’d call out your name
But you would not hear
Think I know
No, I know
I fear
You had waited
For the lightning to strike
Heard the clap of thunder
Rode your horse into the rain
You rode away
You made your way
Far, far away
So you could not hear me call your name
…When all that’s right
Turned upside-down
A smile upright
Becomes a frown
Don’t like it great?
Vote for the clown
But you’ll have to remind him
Why he’s around
Don’t ask him why
He can’t explain
Why insanity reigns…
Why freedom’s in chains
Tonight I saw
Freedom in chains…
Open your umbrellas
On your tables
And in your drinks
Don’t dry dock your boats
Because only a boat
In water sinks
That’s not the way to think
The time to die
Is at the end of life
Don’t die before you’re dead
Go out now
And live your life
In a world outside your head
Live your life
Don’t waste your time
Until I’m dead
I’m living mine
The good
The bad
That living brings
Much better than
A life that’s full of nothings
Your love
Your love’s a surface
Time can’t deface
Your love’s so big
Fills outer space
Your love’s a love
Time can’t replace
When you’re gone
It’s the blues
Takes the world
To fill your shoes
A world of colors
Such beautiful hues
But you’re back in my world
And that’s wonderful news
Dance on shadow queen
Dance on
Dance on my shadow queen
Dance on
…But when my novel, she comes out
You can buy it with a Visa
So it’s not my Mona Lisa
No, it’s not my Mona Lisa
But it’s fine
‘Cause it’s mine
All that work
And all that time
Completed work
Came from my mind
Now put to paper
That’s how I made her…
A spider web
Torn by the wind
A fence to make
It’s story’s end…
Brilliance
Resulting in Renaissance
To think in safety
Progress’s response
Above your head
Wear a cap with a sconce
Trimmed with gutters and downspouts
To safely dispatch
The hot wax
Which prior
Only your head there to catch
Spread your wings
Sail into life’s horizon
On the wind of your dreams
Ride the wind until your dream
Rides reality’s seams
And you will find you have sewn
Your today
To tomorrow’s unknown
And the sun on your horizon
Is what you’ve become
The plight of Lester Grynthal
He’s got his eyes
But not his ears
On a history changing wall
So he can see
But cannot hear
The message leading to the fall
His future is his greatest fear
That is
If he’s got one at all
Lester Grynthal
Haven’t posted any writing for a while. I’ve been working on my structure edit for The Kite and the Coin Toss. This puzzle concept popped into my brain and I ran with it. It took me away for a little while, maybe that was just what I needed. Now…back to the book.
RIP Neil Peart
For the House of Misrepresentatives…
Hippo Critters
Hippo Critters
Don’t do as they do
Do as they say
Hippo Critters bite
If they don’t get their way
Worrying’s overrated
What has it ever done
For anyone
It’s passé, démodé and outdated
The olde-fashioned stressor
Second to none
Control what you can control
Control no more
Control no less
Control what you can control
Control yourself
Don’t second guess
Come on
Come on
Let’s rise above this hatred
Hell is open bordered
But Heaven is pearly gated
Come on
Come on
Come rise above the hatred
When a glance into a mirror
Reflects what you’ve been trained to fear
Rise up
Rise up
Then rise above the hatred
