Me, Myself and I

4.21.2018

“When I close my eyes,”

she says

“I am anywhere but here

and I am happy.”

“But when I open them again,”

she says

“I find I’m nowhere but here…

seems no escape

from my reality.”

It’s wrong

To do this to anyone

But when

You’ve done it to yourself

Made your enemies your friends

Put the real ones on the shelf

I made my hell

It’s just as well

I don’t just blame myself

I blame the three of us

Me, myself and I

But not a one of us

Holds the answer as to why

All that’s left’s the question

As to who may hold the key

To this cage

Please set me free

Please let me fly

I beg the three of us

Me, myself and I

But not a one of us

Holds the answer as to why

I can’t break free

But then

But then I look down

Down to my hands

They hold the metal

They hold the plans

To forge the key

When I hit bottom

I must have picked them up

While begging on my knees

Thought only I could hear my pleas

Thought only I...

Now all that’s left

Is to answer my own question

As to who now holds the key

To this cage

To set me free

To let me fly

I tell the three of us

Me, myself and I

‘Cause finally one of us

Holds the answer as to why

I hold them both

The answer

And the key

“Now when I close my eyes,”

she says

“I can remember being there

but now I’m happy.”

“And when I open them again,”

she says

“I see I’m anywhere but there

made my escape

my new reality.”

I thank the three of us

Me, myself and I

I made the key

Set myself free

Unlocked the cage

With me inside

Found it was I

The whole time caged

Found it was I

Who had the wings to fly

Me, myself and I

Me, myself and I
