Be The Change You Want To See

6.17.2018

(Father’s Day)

Has saying, “Hello.”

Gone the way of the Dodo

Has holding the door

Found its way to the door

Don’t hit yourself on the way out

I will say, “Hello.”

And I will still hold the door

Not so much for chivalry

More so for courtesy

All should be doing it more

And I won’t let it hit you on the way out

See the change

You want to be

Then

Be the change

You want to see

Call me olde fashioned

But that’s how I roll

Missing smiles and waves

Have taken their toll

Society’s crying

Skinned its knees

Now it’s hurt

Make an effort for trying

Help it up from the dirt

Never should have gotten hurt

By the door on its way out

“So can I get that for you?”

“Please.”

“Thank you.”

“You’re welcome.”

See the change

You want to be

Then

Be the change

You want to see

Have we forgotten it all

Or just replaced them with venom

“Oh, please!”

“I hate you.”

And, “You are unwelcome.”

Are the kinds of words

Will make us fall

Words laced with poison

So I will say, “Hello.”

And I will hold the door

“Please.”

“Thank you.”

“You’re welcome.”

And I won’t let it hit you on the way out

Won’t let it hit you on the way out

See the change

You want to be

Then

Be the change

You want to see

Be
