The Moon Set The Stage
9.20.2019
I spy
Across the room
A face I have only
Known since noon
A hand I helped
A love had bloomed
Watered by the cycle
Of the moon
New moon
A cycle of phases
A wink
I don’t need a think tank
To think
She had me at the first
I spy
Across the room
A face known
As my children’s mother’s
A hand I’ve held
More than any others
Walking by the light of the moon
Full moon
A cycle of phases
A wink
I don’t need a think tank
To think
She had me at the first
And every year since
Beginning of November
To October thirty-first
Two hearts as full
As full as this moon
Been riding the tides ever since
I spy
Across the room
A face I’ve known
For nearly forty Junes
A hand I’ve held
Through endless cycles of moons
Waning crescent
A cycle of phases
A wink
I don’t need a think tank
To think
She had me at the first
The moon set the stage
Illuminated by the sun
We roll through its phases
Together through every one
Been riding the tides ever since
Through every age
By the light of the sun
But the moon set the stage
The moon set the stage
