A Portrait of You
11.7.2022
When you’re not there
The rest of the world
It comes into focus
Everything’s there
But all I notice
All I see
I scan the landscape
Take in all my surroundings
All just a world without you
All, yet nothing
When you’re not there
But when you’re there
For me
There’s no escape
The background
It blurs
It fades
The f-stop
Zeroes in as it falls
You come into focus
And the world fades away
My life in a day
Focuses in on you
A day in my life
Backed by wallpaper glue
Fuzzy
Flurry
Buzzed
And blurry
Though the world surrounds me
All I see is you
My life becomes
A portrait of you
I don’t know how
My world’s not a blur
Then you take control
Of my aperture
As it dials down
The temperature rises
You set my world on fire
Gotta put it out
But when I try to zoom out
I’m dizzy with the jitters
As I’m blinded by
Your flash and star filters
My life
It may be a blurry collage
But my gut
It tells me
You’re just a mirage
I have to turn my focus
On solving this caper
Dial my f-stop up
Back to my life’s wallpaper
It’s not flashy
But at least it’s mine
You are the light
My eyes are drawn to
But my life’s more
Than a portrait of you
The proof
Right there for me to see
Because in each portrait
You’re never looking at me
