Rome Wasn’t Ruined in a Day
Rome wasn’t ruined in a day
No, Rome wasn’t ruined in a day
It took x years
To get that way
Despite my fears
I hate to say
It may take y years
But we’re heading that way
A parent’s greatest fears
A child’s reality some day
So wake up now
Start changing today
Don’t wait to be told
By hindsight, why
Wake now, don’t wait
For freedom’s twilight
Stoke its flame
Keep it burning bright
Help your children’s children
Dream and sleep peaceful at night
Because Rome wasn’t ruined in a day
It took years of allowing things to go the wrong way
And that didn’t lessen the price that they paid
No, Rome wasn’t ruined in just one day
Now only the ruins have not gone away
We’ve got to do
Whatever it takes
To learn from them
To learn from mistakes
But how can there be
Someone smart enough around
While making a politically correct point
To dumbing ourselves down
The world is shrinking
It has gotten smaller
And, there’s no escaping that
We’ve got to start thinking, get smarter
To recognize, face, and stand up to the fact
Competition is no longer measured
On a coast to coast scale
It is sea to sea, pole to pole
And recognizing this is critical
It has come to pass or fail
You have to jump on the smart train
Or lay your head on the rail
Because in order to adjust the swing
The scale returns to balance
That puts us on the downward swing
Don’t leave our fates to chance
Don’t leave ignorance to blame
Because, though Rome wasn’t ruined in a day
It was ruined, just the same
Yeah, Rome wasn’t ruined in a day
But it was ruined just the same
