I’ve Never Stopped Calling You Movie Star
9.27.2017
My mother recently shared a story about me when I was very young.
I had not gotten something I wanted, so in my spoiled rotten mood I told her
I would no longer call her a movie star.
I didn’t mean it.

We’ve travelled time
We’ve travelled far
I’ve never stopped calling you
Movie star
I’ve grown a few feet up
Two thousand miles too far
But I’ve never stopped calling you
Movie star
You’ve given me life
You’ve given me light
Flip off any switch
And call it
The dark of night
But the camera’s still on
Illuminates
Makes it right
As you take to the stage
And into the spotlight
You’re a movie star
It’s what you are
I’ve never stopped calling you
Movie star
Just a threat
From a child
Who didn’t get his way
A mean wind passing through
An otherwise perfect day
Look up to the skies
See the sun
See the stars
I’ve never stopped calling you
Movie star
I’ve never stopped calling you
Movie star
We’ve aged
We’ve grown
Fifty years from my start
Though aged
Though grown
We’ve never grown apart
The distance between
Not the distance between hearts
I’ve never stopped calling you
Movie star
I’ve never stopped calling you
Movie star
You’ve given me life
You’ve given me light
Flip off any switch
And call it
The dark of night
But the camera’s still on
Illuminates
Makes it right
As you take to the stage
And into the spotlight
You’re a movie star
It’s what you are
I never stopped calling you
Movie star
But the name
I prefer
One I prefer by far
Oh the name
I prefer
Is much closer to the heart
So the name I call out
Much more than movie star
Is mom
And I’ve never stopped calling you
Mom
