Darkness Fell

I walked the walk

I walked the line

A car backfired

Sent the raven flying

It squawked

It cawed

Startled from hidden perch

Now flapped overhead

As it had twisted and lurched

A feather had loosed

From a wing of jet black

A black feather had loosed

And fell from its back

From wing interrupted

The black feather erupted

It made its descent

And me none-the-wise

Until black feather fell

Before the whites of my eyes

In that very instant

A dark night’s swell

For in that fleeting moment

Darkness fell
