A Cold December’s Untended Embers
It was a cold December
Do you remember
The burning embers
Of a warming fire?
Outside, the weather
Inside was better
We warmed together
Beside the fire
But like time’s effect on flame
A love gone distant and dire
Only the glowing embers remain
A promise proven a liar
Now we’re the cold December day
What happened to our fire?
Has the wind of time blown out the flame?
Only the windblown embers’ lights remain
Can’t we add more wood?
Would stoking do no good?
A tended fire should
Breathe life into our flame
Add kindling, and it would
Warm this cold December day
