More Than Just Tracks of Steel
Tracks of steel
Can’t see or feel
But the owners of
The hands that laid them could
But, could they see
Over a century, we
Still see, and feel,
The tracks of steel
Laid cross the ties of wood
And could they feel
Their efforts yield
A means for us
To ride the steel
Across time
And well beyond just fields
With minds and bones intact
Had they sense of their impact
Or is hindsight the only way to see
The impact that it would have on we
Who can turn our backs
On the future to see
The tracks the past had laid
For hindsight sees
What foresight cannot
With the future in its way
And time will not cease
And tomorrow, today is not
No matter how many tracks we lay
